It seems pretty standard to prioritise revenue growth in business because the point is to bring in money, right? Without revenue coming in, a company will struggle to survive, and end up failing. Yet, the #1 mistake businesses make is when they focus only on revenue as a business growth strategy instead of considering the real drivers of growth. The activities that— when done right—lead to growth.

Here's the thing, “grow revenue” isn’t a strategy. It’s not a plan of attack, and it doesn’t give you any idea how to make it happen. It’s an end-goal, but not a means to achieving it. It’s the smaller activities, the components of your business activity that lead to revenue growth, but you can't just rely on one activity to get you through. In business you’ve got to pull multiple levers at the same time to keep growing and changing. It's like driving a car: you can’t make all your left turns at once. Always take a balanced approach in your activities, whilst keeping your destination front of mind.

Getting your site to the top spots on Google’s search results is one of the most effective ways to drive up website traffic, engagement and conversions – but what’s the best way to get there?

There are two key places for your business to feature on Google:

  1. the organic search results that are listed down the page and
  2. the paid advertising placements which are marked as an ‘ad’ and sit above the organic results.

Ranking at the top of the organic search results involves expert crafting of your website content and metadata known as SEO or Search Engine Optimisation, while SEM or Search Engine Marketing is a paid ad placement which can be targeted to your audience around specific keyword groups.

In this post we’ll explain the difference between SEO vs SEM, when each method is best and how your business should be using them together for short and long-term success.

What’s the difference between SEO vs SEM?

In simple terms, the difference between SEO and SEM is:

  • SEO helps you gain visibility in organic search results
  • SEM helps you gain visibility in paid search results

So while both SEO and SEM are digital marketing tactics you can use to increase your visibility on search engines, SEO represents your organic efforts and SEM represents your paid efforts. Below we take a deeper dive into the definitions.

In a world of sophisticated digital marketing, we shouldn’t forget how powerful a simple word-of-mouth referral is. Yes, paid advertising, robust SEO and an excellent website are all important players in helping your business grow, but the effectiveness of a recommendation shouldn’t be overlooked. It’s human nature: we’d rather do business with someone we think is trustworthy than with a total stranger.  Asking for referrals can be a tricky art to get right, but once you’ve got an effective strategy in place, it’ll help you attract quality leads, retain more loyal customers and grow your business.

In only a couple of months, COVID-19 has had a massive impact on the way we live and work. Many businesses have started asking their staff to work from home in a bid to reduce their contribution to the spread of the Coronavirus. For some, this transition to remote working might be a natural one, but for others it is a daunting task, especially given the time pressure.  At this time of uncertainty, many questions weigh on the minds of both employers and employees alike. Questions like ‘what does working remotely mean?’ and ‘is working remotely a good idea?’  As a digital marketing agency, many of our team members work remotely in our normal business operation and now the rest of our staff are working from home also. We’ve made the switch and so we understand the challenges - technical and personal - that come with transitioning to remote work. Whether you’re a business owner or employee, we’d love to share our knowledge with you so you can make your transition to remote work as smooth and successful as possible. Working remotely means you don’t clock in at a physical office, you don’t make the commute home: you work wherever you have a sturdy internet connection. Even before COVID-19, remote working was actually becoming more popular than ever. The business world is increasingly moving towards doing things online and more businesses are investing in things like quality digital marketing and online operating systems.  Whether you’re trying to figure out how to work remotely as a web developer, accountant, insurance agent or customer service officer, there are increasingly more types of jobs that allow working remotely. Some jobs will transition easier than others, but with the right tools and company culture, it’s incredible how remote working can actually benefit businesses. Now for some pragmatic and practical solutions that you can use to get started with the transition to remote work in your own business. The first section is for employers, the second for employees.

We’ve all felt the impact of COVID-19 on the way we live, work and socialise. A lot of us are now working from home, but even with these adaptations, unfortunately many individuals and businesses have suffered a financial hit.

With less disposable income to spend and more time being spent at home, it’s no wonder consumer behaviour has shifted. That’s not to mention stressors on supply chains, changes in the way media is consumed and increased anxiety about health. All of these are impacting the way people are spending their money.

Two of the major changes we’ve noticed are:

  1. People are searching differently. They’re using keyword modifiers that reflect their new “at home” lifestyle.
  2. People are buying differently. They’re purchasing things that they see as essential (think health, fitness etc.), rather than making desire-based purchases.

With these big shifts in consumer behaviour, it makes sense that our old SEO strategies might not cut it. So it begs the question: in this crazy, confusing climate, how do you shift your content and SEO strategy to remain relevant and stay afloat? Here are our tips on how to build an SEO strategy that helps you do just that...

A Google Premier Partner is any person or Google ads agency capable of providing digital advertising services that meet the qualifications of Google ads. To be eligible for the Google Premier Partner badge, you must be in the top 3% of all participating companies within your country. Some of the criteria used to consider the agency's expertise level include, but are not limited to, client growth and retention, product diversification, and the agency’s ad spend. This is re-evaluated every year and awarded in February.

There are two badges an agency can gain – these are: Google Partner or Google Premier Partner. The decision on which badge is earned heavily depends on the criteria mentioned above.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Google's new update! Have you noticed how intuitive Google's search results have become recently? No, this isn't because of some outer force in the universe. It's simply the new algorithm that has recently rolled out. Introducing Google BERT It focuses on the users themselves and making them feel more heard than ever before! With a change in Google's focus, it's no wonder that SEO services are adapting to the latest updates and changing the way we do digital marketing.  BERT is popularly known as a Google search algorithm tool. BERT stands for Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers. In a nutshell, this Google update aims to understand your search query by getting to know the context of the words you use in searches and coming up with relevant search results.  BERT is said to improve natural language processing by helping Google to understand the human language used in a query better. This new update takes care of tasks such as part of speech tagging, entity recognition, question-answering, among other natural language processes.

First things first - what is Google BERT?

It all boils down to understanding your visitor's search intent. Taking the initiative in asking basic questions like:

  1. What does the user want to find out?
  2. What type of query is made?

Google estimated that the BERT update would affect 10% of all queries. Most queries that have survived the update are "longer and more conversational," which most SEO strategies have to target.

Did you know that around 75,000 searches happen on Google every second... that's 4,500,000 searches a minute! With Google being the biggest search engine, it's no surprise that Adwords plays a massive role in the digital marketing space.

PPC (pay-per-click) campaigns have been a crucial part of the success of hundreds of our clients every single day. We've taken over some seriously questionable campaigns, and we've seen time and again how important a well thought out strategy is to give businesses the best opportunity for success.

For anyone out there reading this article and perhaps wondering what Google Adwords is, essentially, it's a marketing tool that allows businesses to buy premium advertising space on Google. And, if you haven't already taken the hint, we're pretty dang fond of them and their powerful marketing nature.

Adwords are a little smarter than the simple advertising campaigns we know. It allows businesses to put their products or services in front of audiences that have already been searching for them. If you're wondering how Google makes this happen, it's not some harry potter wand-waving spell type of thing. Luckily (for you and us), it's much more straightforward. Google Adwords enables you to bid on search terms for your ads. So, for example, let's say you own a surf shop. You could bid on related keywords that people might be typing into the search bar who are interested in the surf industry. Eg. surfboards.

On top of this convenient bidding structure - it also has precise targeting options for your audience, allowing you to create audiences based on parameters such as demographics, psychographics, and even the type of device. Eg. kids surfboards in Perth.

When an Adwords Campaign is set up and managed effectively, it has the potential to generate seriously epic sales and returns on ad spend. However, there are a few little hacks and tricks that you need to be aware of to get the most out of your campaign. To keep things simple, let's start with five tips that you can take on board and apply to your Google Adwords campaigns.
