Your ads, now in ChatGPT
This week I want to step away from brand for a minute and share something exciting with you.
We can now run ads for you inside ChatGPT. If you’ve missed the talk about this over the last few months, let me give you a quick rundown.
When someone asks ChatGPT a question, they might see a sponsored result sitting at the bottom of the answer. It is clearly marked and kept separate, and it does not change what ChatGPT actually tells them.
Here is why it’s interesting. People use ChatGPT differently from Google. They actually talk a problem through, “out loud”, before they are ready to buy. It’s more of a conversation.
Because of that, ChatGPT has a good sense of what they really want. Your ad can reach them at the exact moment they are thinking it through, and they are often closer to a decision than someone doing a typical search through Google.
And for now, only one ad shows at a time, so if it is you, you have that moment to yourself!
Say someone asks ChatGPT how to fix a patchy, dry lawn, or what a new backyard might cost. A local landscaping business can show up right next to that answer, while they are still deciding what to do.
It is still early days though. The way you measure results is simpler than what you’d be used to on Google or Meta, and the targeting is still fairly basic. That is normal for something this new, and we're learning what works along the way.
You can read about how they work directly from OpenAI.
