How confident are you about that?
Marketing has never had more tools available to it, from AI and automation through to dashboards and an endless stream of data. I mean, these days I can paste one prompt into an AI tool and have a full account audit back before my coffee's even gone cold.
But what use are any of these tools if you don't know which numbers matter and how they connect?
And a lot of people don't. 85% of marketers said they felt confident tracking performance holistically, yet only 32% were actually doing it.
That gap tells you the problem was never a lack of data or platforms.
Most teams can already track reach, clicks, engagement, leads, conversions and return on ad spend, since all of that sits a click away now. Those numbers only mean something once you know which outcomes actually matter to the business, and that's where a lot of teams get stuck.
A clear strategy tells you who you're trying to reach, what you want them to do, and which channels are worth the investment. It also tells you what should be used to judge whether it's working.
Without that, teams end up optimising channels in isolation. Engagement looks strong on one campaign, clicks are cheaper on another, and the dashboard is full of green arrows, but none of it ties back to something the business actually needs.
This changes how you should think about adding new tools too. A new platform or AI product can genuinely make a team more efficient, but it should support a priority you've already set rather than create a new one to chase.
The same goes for data. More of it only helps once you know what you're looking for and how it will change your next move.
Strong marketing starts with clarity on what matters. Once that's in place, the tools finally earn their keep.
