I've got a few questions for you
Last week was about being built for whatever's next. This week is more practical: how do you actually pick your next move?
When things slow down, we feel like we have to do something. We throw more budget at it, try a new platform, or kick off another campaign. Doing anything makes us feel like we're getting somewhere, but if we don't know what's actually wrong, we're just moving things around.
Before you spend time and budget on the next thing, stop and get clear on what you actually want. What does "better" look like for you right now? Is it more sales? Better margins? More leads, or just better ones? But most importantly, can you put a number on it? If you can't, you probably don't have a plan yet, you've got a wish list.
Once you know what you're after, doing things in the right order makes all the difference. If you don’t get the basics right before you spend on growth, you’re only going to be feeding a leaky funnel. It comes down to three steps:
Clarity → Foundations → Growth
Putting that into practice starts with being honest about where you are. I know it’s simple, but before your next move, ask yourself these five questions:
- What's our goal, in real numbers?
- Where are we falling short right now?
- What's the one thing holding us back?
- Are we fixing the cause, or just the symptom?
- Will this build on itself, or just patch a hole?
It's one of those things we hear all the time, but we always need the reminder. Direction matters more than speed.
